Alessio Mastrorillo (b. 1987, Italy) is a composer, sound engineer and professor of computer music. His artistic and technical practice bridges electroacoustic composition, spatial audio and multimedia art research.
His musical background began with organ, drums and music engineering, later evolving toward computer music and advanced sound technologies.
He edited and mixed the score for Holofiction, a film by Michal Kosakowski, premiered at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival, with music by Paolo Marzocchi (Nominee Best Documentary on Cinema).
He collaborates with the Italian National Research Council (CNR) alongside artist Pier Alfeo on the research project 504 Ways of Listening, contributing to the development of DDMM technology, presented at Sound and Music Computing 2025 (Graz, Austria).
During the IX Biennial of Contemporary Mosaic, he presented the sound installation Reecords I at the archaeological site Domus dei Tappeti di Pietra, one of Italy’s most significant archaeological discoveries of recent decades.
His research has been presented at international conferences including NYCEMF, CIM, and AIA.
His electroacoustic works have been featured at major international events such as ICMC, SMC, NYCEMF, eviMus, Electronic Audio Unit, Nuova Consonanza, Arte&Scienza, and Electric Sound.
He has undertaken artistic residencies at Tempo Reale (Florence, 2021) and Laidi Palace (Kuldīga, Latvia, 2024).
As a performer, he is active in solo and ensemble live electronics, collaborating with groups including Mediterraneo Radicale and the Tempo Reale Electroacoustic Ensemble.
He is professor of computer music at the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Ravenna, with classes at conservatories in Modena, Reggio Emilia and Livorno.
He has worked as sound director and engineer for major live productions, including the televised broadcast Space for Agriculture and Food from the International Space Station for Expo Milano 2015 and Gucci Cosmogonie at Castel del Monte (2022).
In the field of audio software development, he contributed to Envelop for Live (USA, 2021), implementing a custom stereo UHJ decoder to extend spatial audio capabilities.
As a speaker, he has given seminars at Conservatorio Santa Cecilia (Rome), Festival Barisien-Parisien-Napolitain (Bari), Zenith Waves (Kuldīga) and CNR-IAS (Capo Granitola).
In parallel with his artistic work, he has worked as a music producer; in 2019, a release on Mind Flux (UK) reached #1 on the global genre chart for five consecutive weeks.
